Autumny Goodness

Got some fall pictures of my little guys this weekend, but I'm afraid I waited a wee bit too long. The colors were starting to fade already on the mountain.

Taking pictures outdoors of a baby who can't sit up yet is just about as easy as herding cats! Most of the time he was screaming and arching his back trying to wiggle out of the positions I had put him in, but I did manage to get one of the two of them together!

Your Moment of Cuteness

From my hubby, who is home with the kiddos...

Nicky: I want more chicken.
DH: *gets out Dino-shaped chicken nuggets*
Nicky: No, I want more chicken.
DH: That is made of chicken.
Nicky: No, silly dada, that is made of Dinosaur!

Thursday Thirteen #51

13 Things I’ve Learned in the Last Few Weeks
  1. Why some people thing bibs are so vital!
I never understood people's fascination with bibs for little babies. Why they make so many adorable ones for newborns… I understand now!!! Nicky spit up like three times in his entire infancy. Finn spits up three times in one feeding!
  2. That you should never let a nurse give you Pitocin to speed up labor unless she swears a blood oath that you'll get an epidural when you ask for it!
My water broke at midnight and at six the next morning I still wasn't really in labor. I told them if they gave me Pitocin I'd want an epidural. They did and when I asked for my epidural they said he was with someone else… An hour later during which I'd had the most excruciating pain of my entire life, I was fully dilated and he was still giving someone else her epidural… Well that isn't true at that point he was filling out paperwork… No comment there…
  3. Babies who can be laid down for short periods of time really do exist!
Finn will let me lay him down without screaming for at least short periods of time sometimes. Nicky screamed the second he left contact with your body!
  4. Fenugreek makes you smell like it!
    Ick!
It's an herb that helps with milk production, but after a few days on it Finn and I both were stinky!
  5. I'm tired!
  6. Corndogs really are gross.
For some reason they weren't when I was prego but now they definitely are again!
  7. Though he can be laid down for short periods, he'd much prefer my lap.
    Hence his current location!
  8. This little dude is really particular about his pacifiers!
Only one specific kind will do!
  9. Apparently it is possible to have twins three years apart.
  10. My little boys are just tooooooo cute!
  11. No, really! I'm quite tired!
  12. It's possible to turn my little boy against me just by "hiding" from him for two days.

He was really miffed with me when I got home from the hospital. Completely refused to acknowledge me for a good two hours!

  13. I seem to be able to come up with a Thursday thirteen even when I have only had 2 hours or so of cumulative sleep.

So I thought they looked alike...

But I didn't realize they were practically twins until I put their pictures next to each other. I took an older picture of Nicky since he was such a tiny little guy when he was a born. He was closer to Finn's size when he hit one month.

My Child is Silly!

Nicky seems to be under the impression that he is the boss in our house. While he is in many ways, his newest form of manipulation isn't working so well for him.

This conversation takes place on a regular basis...

Nicky: I wanna play Dada's Game! (Dada game is Nicky code for Megaman on the Playstation)

Me: Not right now. Go play with your...*insert any number of fun toys*

Nicky: I said, "I wanna play Dada's Game!"

Me: Tough.

Nicky: I said, "No Tough!"

I dunno where he gets this stuff! LOL

Ever feel like a bad Parent?

I do today because every single thing my child does is getting on my nerves!

I mean I love him dearly of course, and I'm sure it's just pregnancy hormones and lack of sleep (because he decided to wake up at 2:30 AM and not go back to sleep until 9 AM, when I hadn't even gotten to sleep until like one anyway) but OMG he's obnoxious today!

And I feel bad for feeling this way, because I'm usually much more tolerant of his antics!

OMG The Cuteness!

When I got home from work it was raining, and no one had come and unlocked the door for me so I got a little wet coming in the back door. Nicky came over to tell me hi and give me a kiss and when he saw the water all over my arms this conversation took place.

Nicky: Mama's got water on her.
Me: Yeap. Mama's wet.
Nicky: Mama's wet from the rain?
Me: Yeap, the rain got me all wet!
Nicky: It's okay, Mama. I'll clean you up!

After which he proceeded to try to wipe all the rain off my arms. I mean how freaking cute is that???!!!

Why does getting dressed have to be so hard?

No, I'm not talking about myself although that is hard enough these days what with the trying to lean over and put on socks thing. I'm talking about my two year old! Why are clothes some sort of acid-laced bane of his existence???

And if it's SO AWFUL to put on clothes then why doesn't he ever want me to take them off??? I mean I have to wrestle him to the ground just to get him to let me take his dang pants off so he can use the potty, when he himself has just told me he needs to go?!

I do not understand this particular aspect of toddlerdom. Anyone have any ideas?

Me: I'm workin.
Nicky: Playin work?
Me: No workin work.
Nicky: Nicky play?
Me: Yes, you go play with *insert one of 10k toys*
Nicky: *ignores me about two minutes in favor or said toy* Mama...what cha dooooooooooin?

*repeat to infinity*

Seeking the Aid of a Higher Power

Don't worry. This isn't going to be a religious post. I can almost 100% guarantee that I will never be going there on this blog.

So I've talked in the past about Nicky's obsession with the Wii. He loves that thing. Passionately. To the point of obsession. His favorite games are Cars, Wii Play, and his new Diego game, which we only got a scant two days before the incident.

Nicky had been trying to convince me all day to play Diego, but I didn't want him playing all the time, and he was being rather ornery about it so that clinched my decision to not let him play. I'm so not giving in to the orneriness! However, after lunch he had ceased his ranting about it and been good while eating his lunch, so when he came to me hugged me really tight and gave me a kiss and asked to play Diego I decided to let him. Well, I got up and turned on the Wii and it said it didn't have a disc...Odd since I'd left Diego in it. I hit the eject button and sure enough Diego popped out. hmmm... Tried another couple discs and got the exact same result.

The horror of horrors had happened. The Wii was broken!!! *insert corny horror music here*

Well I remembered that we'd gotten the two year warranty when we got the Wii so I got out the receipt and looked up the website for said warranty and filed a claim. All the time, an angry, betrayed baby bear was staring at me ranting (again) about wanting to play Diego. The email I received back from the claim said that I was to take the Wii the next business day to So and So's Satellite repair in Pennsylvania... Take it to Pennsylvania??? I could buy a new Wii for the price of gas! So I emailed and asked if I could mail it, and they said they were sorry but the instructions were for local people... Okay... I should wait for a mailing label, which should come within the week (if it's not there when I get home today then that isn't true), then after they receive it, the repair should be completed within 10-15 business days. All and all this ads up to over a month. How can I be Wii-less a month!?!?! Don't they know that WiiFit is coming out in March!!!!!!!

Anyway so Nicky was very displeased with me! He kept asking for Diego, Cars, Cows (WiiPlay). To which I always replied. Nicky, I'm really sorry baby but Said Game is broken.

Well this weekend I was taking Bryon to a friend's in a town not far from here, and I missed the road and had to turn around in a little subdivision. Nicky, in the back seat, suddenly shouted GRANDMA!!! I looked up and sure enough the subdivision bore a striking resemblance to the one my mother lives in, only she lives about four hours away... I tried to explain that it wasn't Grandma's, it only looked like Grandma's, but when we turned around without visiting Grandma there was much screaming.

Apparently this triggered a chain of thoughts in my two-year olds head, because later that evening when we were picking up Bryon again, he shouted that he wanted to call Grandma. Now he's never actually asked to call anyone, so I naturally picked up the cell phone, called her, and let him talk. The first words out of his mouth?

"Grandma, Cars broken."
*inaudible Grandma voice*
"Grandma, Diego broken."

So when I got the phone back I had to explain to her that my child, apparently believing me powerless to fix his Wii had sought out someone of much higher power. The Grandma!
